Maypole Hall
Great Totham, Essex

For this stunning £3million property at Wickham Bishops, Essex, we aimed to exceed the clients expectations for a full renovation and redesign on the exterior of the beautiful family home.
The client required an extensive renovation of the driveway, installation of the swimming pool and luxurious finish of the family entertainment area. We designed and installed all of the landscape elements including; the bespoke sawn sandstone pool, elegant lighting and planting, fire pit area and the stunning entrance to the property, while making sure the whole external finish came together naturally as one.
We wanted to create a sleek, modern but unique finish to compliment the character of the property.

Swimming pool installation

On this project we worked closely with a specialist pool company to bring our clients dream of a family friendly usable swimming pool area to life.

We carried out all of the groundwork, services installation and pool house installation. We designed and installed the bespoke sawn sandstone pool surround including landscape lighting for our customers at this fantastic £3million home in Wickham Bishops, Essex. We used the same sawn sandstone as we used for the fire pit area so both creations flow into each other naturally.

The pool has been a perfect addition to this stunning family home which is getting plenty of use from the families children.

Fire pit entertainment area

We created a Fire pit entertainment area which resides adjacent to the pool area. We elevated the sawn sandstone middle section to give some height and definition and used a resin bound surface for the lower area.

The upper area has monocouche rendered planters on each corner with grand sawn sandstone bull-nosed steps in between. We installed spike lights in the planter beds and wall lights on the planter walls and either end of the steps. It is an incredible space for hosting garden parties and entertaining guests on those warm summer evenings.

The warmth from the fire pit, landscape lighting and soft elegant colourful planting in the beige Monocouche rendered planters we constructed giving a luxurious Mediterranean feel..

Driveway renovation

We carried out extensive renovations to the driveway. Firstly installing over 300 linear meters of land drainage to take away the surface water from the 1,500 square meter driveway. We created a stunning entrance to the property. As you pull on to the splayed Resin bound surface, edged with black/grey natural limestone setts, you are greeted with large raw iron automated gates. The gates are attached to brick built piers and sweeping curved walls with raw iron railings. The brick piers are capped with bespoke sandstone pier caps. Either side of the sweeping curved walls is softened with planting. Portuguese Laurels at the back with a low level colourful planting scheme at the front. As you enter the property the same scheme is following from the entrance with the whole driveway edged with black/grey natural limestone setts with a resin bound surface covering the 900 square meter majority of the driveway. We installed a planted centre piece surrounded by a 280 square meter blocked area with limestone blocks. It’s important to to have different textures and elevations on such a vast area to take the design to the next level. We imported 38 14ft Cypress Rocket Tree’s from Italy which line the perimeter of the driveway which we feel really give it the grand execution it deserves.

Landscape lighting was installed through out which can be controlled by mobile phone, a sensor or a switch. Every driveway light was individually core drilled with precision into the limestone blocks. Up and down lighting on the entrance piers and specifically positioned on the building itself, along with the soft landscape lighting creates a breath taking visual under the night sky.

As you look out from the property we created a natural woodland area to the left of the driveway. Leaving in the healthy existing trees and removing the dead… we separated the woodland from the turf with a curved boarder to match the curves, radius’s and circular vision of the driveway. The woodland area was planted with wild flowers and seasonal bulbs and covered with tree bark. This area gives the surroundings character and has a unique feel to it and really is a special place to be, especially at certain times of the year.

Once the driveway and boarders were complete, over 3,000 square meters of land was reduced and re-levelled. We imported over 700 ton of premium top soil to install in preparation for the new turf. The top soil was levelled and lightly compacted in layers, then a timber built frame was pulled over the surface to give a perfectly flat finish ready for the new turf.
